The question: “What is health for” opens up a lot of doors.
My goal here is to see that you see this as holistic and not fragmented which us usually how health is approached. There are many things involved with health. Diet, exercise, mental attitude and beliefs. I will approach all of these things from my standpoint and you can come to your own conclusions. If you have any questions, please ask.
Diet is probably the most discussed subject on the planet and there are so many opinions and remedies that the mind boggles. If we took all of that advice we would go crazy. Most of us do and then we don't try to improve our lifestyle.
It is important that you try to get the best food that you can afford. Obviously certified organic is the next best thing to growing your own.
This has been paraded like a mantra, lots of vegetables and fruit. The reason being is that fruit particularly is ‘alive' and does invigorate your body plus fruit speeds up healing. Vegetables are next with all the nutrients they impart to your body.
I know some people feel the need for meat. I am not one of them. I have been a vegetarian for over 40 years and experiencing the benefits of that. But I am not suggesting people should follow me. What I am suggesting is that you think about what you eat, where it comes from and how it is going to benefit you.
Processed food is considered an absolute no-no. They are high in sugars and fats which the body ‘lurves'. If you want to stay overweight this is the way to go. Chips, yum, cheese, yum, nuggets, yum the list goes on.
It does take discipline to eat healthily, but with practice, it will become a natural part of your life and you will wonder why you didn't do this before. Your energy will increase, you will actually feel like doing some active pursuits.
Which brings us to:
This is a word that makes a lot of people shudder because most of us imagine some sweaty person working out at a gym, don't we?
My personal favourite exercise is yoga. It massages all your organs and has been found to be the only exercise that does this. It keeps not only your body flexible but also your mind.
I am 62 and don't have any physical problems because of the many years I have been doing yoga.
My next favourite is running. Now a lot of people talk about knee injuries from running. Like anything else, there is a technique to running. Use the muscles in your legs and always have your leg slightly bent when walking or running. There is nothing (in my opinion) than flicking your foot forward and planting your weight onto a very straight leg. Walking or running will feel awkward when you first try to use your leg muscles but eventually you will get used to it.
No, I don't have any problems with my knees.
Aerobics are also a favourite exercise of mine. I find the routines are enjoyable and it doesn't feel like exercise.
Last on my list are weights. I do do a lot of manual work around our property so don't feel the need to do weights. But weight lifting is really important for your core strength so shouldn't be left off of your exercise regime.
This is an area that is often neglected when we talk about health.
Think about it. If you spend all your time watching violent movies, the news and reading uninspiring books, what do you think that will do to your attitude towards life. What do you think this will attract to you.
Talking badly about people, complaining about every little thing that doesn't go your way. These are the very things that will affect your health apart from the relationships around you.
Start to focus on things that will make your life more joyful, watch things that inspire you. Get involved in activities that uplift your spirits and talk sweetly about the people around you.
You've probably heard it said that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. This is about you and not them.
Beliefs are what makes you who you are, so make sure your beliefs support you in your journey through life.
What you say to yourself every day determines how you behave in this world. If you take the negative and think that you are a frail and fallen creature, your behaviour will reflect this and consequently this is what you will attract in your life.
Always strengthen your mind with good and powerful things, do not give any time to unuseful and demeaning things.
No one has it easy, just some people at better at handling what life dishes out to them. Make sure you learn how to handle in the best possible manner whatever comes your way.
In other words, learn from other's mistakes, you have a world of experience at your fingertips. Use it. Any question you may have, you will probably find a solution on the internet, just look.
The question: What is health for? It's how you are going to enjoy the rest of your life without pain and suffering.
