Time is your most precious commodity

Time is such a valuable commodity.

You should never waste a precious moment of it.  Time can never be replaced and you cannot make up time.

It's a misconception that you can make it up tomorrow.  Because when tomorrow comes you will either have new priorities or if you are making up for what you didn't do yesterday then all your other goals get held up.

Sometimes someone will say that they have free time tomorrow to catch up.  But at what expense?  You miss out on relaxing or doing something enjoyable because the job that should have been done yesterday has been left to today, plus it's on one's mind until it's done.

This is why it is important to set up deadlines so that you know when you are going to finish a task.

Time can be your enemy…

If not used wisely.  The hardest part is realising that you could have achieved so much in your life but decided instead to waste it.

This may be a harsh lesson but now that you know you can do something about it.

Time for health

It's important that you schedule time for your health.  Making time each day to improve something about your well-being.

It may include a change in diet.

Adding more nutritious food and not eating so much processed food.  Unfortunately, when you are not in top shape bad food looks good and good food looks bad.  After a meal, you should feel light and energetic.

If not, then the food is too stodgy or you have eaten too much.  Being overweight robs you of energy.

If you have been out of shape for any length of time you don't want to overdo it.  Take small baby steps and work on improving your health every day, a bit at a time.

You may include exercise.  Aerobics is the best exercise for getting oxygen to all parts of your body.  You will feel different as you increase your oxygen intake through exercise.

Then take a look at what you read.  Does it inspire you or leave you feeling drained – emotionally or physically.  Change your reading habits.  Read books/magazines that bring you joy and preferably stuff that does not put other people down.

We all have problems to deal with and it's not good to dwell on other people's problems or making fun of them.  This hurts you more than it hurts them and your health will suffer.

What  TV shows are you watching?  Again, here you need to pick what you watch carefully.  Pick shows that leave you feeling inspired/happy.  All these things affect your health.

What about your conversations with people, do they inspire you?  Are you looking at ways to complain or compliment?

Do you open doors for people, are you polite?  These are things worth thinking about.

Clothes.

Clothes can make you feel good or meh.  It's up to you.  How do you want to feel today?

Dressing sharply is all about making you feel good and lifting your energy.

You will be surprised at how much difference clothes can make to your life.

Try not to be the ‘jeans & T-shirt' kind of person.  Everyone has done that one to death.  If you go out to the movies/theatre/live show look good.  See if people notice you and see if it lifts your spirits.

Tidiness.

Does your house/flat/room impress you?  Or can't you wait to get out, after all, you only sleep there?

Making your dwelling a source of joy is never a waste of time.  Tune your place to your liking, make it personal to you.  It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, it's your space to do with as you will.

It can always be changed back or improved upon.

How all of this helps you is that it gets your thinking to be much clearer, much more organised and therefore you can achieve your goals.

Why set tasks/goals.

If you don't have a plan for yourself then how do you expect to get to your destination?

Setting tasks doesn't have to be onerous.  You start with one thing, achieve that and then add another thing.

Once you get into the habit of achieving small tasks/goals then you will move onto larger targets.

You will then become a master of your own destiny.  No longer kicked around by your environment/friends/family.  You will have your own plans and no one will be able to stop you, you will now have determination.

Always go small.

Getting your life to go the way you want it to go takes time.  Don't rush it and don't get impatient.

Baby steps all the way.  Baby steps will get you to your destination far quicker than giant leaps.  Ask any baby, lol !

Patience is not just a virtue it's also a necessity.  This may be the attitude you should be working on the most.  We would all like shortcuts but I am saying don't waste your time on shortcuts they usually take you back to the beginning and you get more disillusioned each shortcut you take.  Shortcuts rarely work and you end up doing twice the work if only you hadn't taken that shortcut.

Once you have mastered these steps you will find out that it's a lot easier to accomplish what you set out to do.  It becomes less of a struggle because you end up being true to yourself.

I wish you all the best and if you would like to comment or ask any question please leave me a comment below.

  1. What fantastic suggestions as to how to use our time efficiently in order to both feel better about ourselves and improve ourselves.

I think baby steps are the key. Often I read sites that give a lot of tips that can be quite good in theory yet overwhelming in practice.

Your tips covering a variety of topics are all doable! And involve little changes for what I think will be big results. It’s so easy to forget how our physical environments can affect our emotions.

I often fall into the jeans and t-shirt trap, giving little to no thought to making an effort to dress up when going somewhere. I can’t wait to make an effort to get dressed up and go out!

    Thanks!

    1. You have made my day!   T-shirt and jeans are so overdone.  I think you are going to have a ball when you go out dressed to the nines and people will look at you differently.

      Thanks,
      Michael

  2. I enjoyed your story about time. It’s so true and gets taken for granted too often. Now is the time. I especially like the part where you mention wardrobe and tidiness. Anything that can make a person feel good needs to be done. So many with low self-esteem could benefit from reading your site.

  3. Hi there. What an amazing explanation about time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never seen or read this content before.
You really sorted it out, step by step.
It is our precious commodity, no doubt in it. Many people just lose time before they realize it.
    keep it up

    1. Thanks, Hasnain, it’s too easy to lose track of time – time is all we have to lead a fulfilling life.  Take care.

      Michael.

  4. What a great post about time. Everybody has the same time everyday but what you do with it is the most important thing. As you mentioned it’s important to set aside some time for your health. I try to go to the gym 3 times a week.

I really like the fact you said take baby steps to achieve what you want in life. This is very important.

  5. lots of good info and tips here.
I think the idea I like most is the idea of baby steps. I think we all often try to take on too much, too quickly and that invites failure.
As I get older, I’m also very aware of time and how there is not an infinite amount of time, as I once thought when I was 25. I do value time more now and think I make good use of it. I don’t watch TV, which used to be a huge time waster when I was younger. Try it. Pitch your TV. You’ll be amazed how much extra time there is to do new and fun things.
thanks for the article. I enjoyed it and was inspired to reconsider some of my habits.

  6. Time is something I never considered when I was younger as I believed I had tonnes of it left. As I get older the realisation of my own mortality has struck home and I now appreciate the time I have. I am not big on overdoing it healthwise, I eat a balanced diet but that’s it, but the point you make that I have really learned to appreciate is the one about your home. I would extend this to the garden as 3 years ago I finally got into gardening as well as building a pond and now enjoy many relaxing hours sitting in my garden appreciating the tranquillity. It really helps me to recharge and feel vitalised.

    1. Mortality can do it every time.  You find your own balance and that is what is important.  Thanks Dean.

  7. Hi Michael,

A friend once told me, “24 hours a day is not enough”. I guess we’ll just have to use time wisely and prioritise our wants and needs.
But, there is a small little devil hidden in our mind telling us, “There is always another day… “. Sometimes, I fight it but sometimes give in.
Thanks for your tips on how to overcome our hurdles – for me, it is Time for Health.

    Best wishes,
    Sharon

  8. It’s too easy to give into that little devil but if we are to get anywhere in life we need to push on regardless.  Thanks, Sharon.

  9. This informatiion is Awesome Michael, hands down! You are so right in regards to setting deadlines. I still struggle with that one time to time, but this post helped me BIG time!

And honestly, I didn’t really even think about the diet aspect of it – I admit, I use to eat a lot foods that weighed me down, how I knew?

I always felt like going to sleep afterwards lol

    Thanks for this Michael,
    Seriously.

I’m going to apply this now.

    Love it 🙂

    1. I am seriously glad this has helped you, Rod.  Print out the steps you need to follow and don’t overdo it.

      Regards,
      Michael

  10. I want to comment on the clothes topic. I use to be a sweatpants oversized shirt girl. I can tell you the better fashion choices you make the more positive affirmation you will receive. I also think that dressing in different ways motives you subconsciously. When I wear workout clothes, I feel unstoppable and ready to workout. When I wear a pencil skirt and blouse, I feel smart and ready to tackle any obstacle. Dressing well is important. I use to dress unwell because I wanted someone to like me for me. However, I looked more homeless and probably got male attention from homeless and “I can fix her” camps.

  11. Wow, that was an awesome read. I learned a lot. Thanks for sharing this.
Made me realize some things since I get lazy all the time.
Managing my time has been a problem of mine ever since. I tend to work only when I feel like it.
Guess it’s time to start working on those unfinished tasks.
I hope you have a good day.

  12. What a great site and great read. Most of us are guilty of taking time for granted. None of us are guaranteed another day and we should all evaluate how we are using out time. I can definitely relate to the tidiness section. I love for things to be tidy and it definitely makes me feel better. Thanks for the great content!

    1. Thanks for such a great compliment, Andrew!  We often hear “live today as though it is your last day” but how many of us actually do it?

  13. Sometimes I get soo stressed because I think of all the things I have to do that day but don’t take the time to prioritize it. I like your idea of creating deadlines for yourself. I also think it’s great to make a list of the things that are important and maybe do the smaller stuff later. You can always break down the big stuff into smaller tasks too so it’s not soo overwhelming!

    1. Thanks for your comment, Kelli.  Also by creating lists, you will become more productive. You might try bullet journaling, or BuJo as it’s known (you can Google it) this may help you with creating lists that inspire you to achieve.
